Hi! Hi!, I'm Bob Martin - President and head gun cleaner of Armed America L.L.C. and our growing family of websites! I'd like to welcome you to your new home on the web for tips, and tricks for shooting and modifying America's newest weapon caliber, the .17 magnum and .17 mach2. We are still in the process of building our site, so if there is anything you would like added, just let us know! |

Our spies have returned from the Shot Show in lost Wages (Expense Account be dammed!), and the hottest new development for us .17 caliber magnum lovers is the NEW .17 Mach 2.
Created in a joint development by Hornady and CCI, the NEW Mach 2 is going to have as huge an impact on the world of rimfire as the 17hmr did.
The engineer/machinist teams have developed a cartridge with a case length that equal to the 22lr, and necked it down to .17 caliber, rammed a hornady v-max bullet into it, and have produced muzzle velocities of over 2,000 feet per second!
Now keep in mind that at 150 yards, that little bullet is traveling faster than the standard .22LR is at the muzzle!
These same engineers/machinists did some very extensive testing under tightly controlled conditions and also discovered that the mach 2 is now twice as accurate as the 22LR!
Looking at a drop rate chart (like the one Ruger displays in its new 2004 catalog) dramatically shows how much better the .17 caliber is at 100 yard target shooting than the .22LR.
With almost zero drop, while the .22LR has around a 6 inch drop, imagine what will happen to your 100 yard target groups with an even more powerful mach 2 .17 caliber round (not to mention those "Buck a Card" bets with your shooting range buddies!)
There are rumors floating around that the price per box of the new rounds is going to be closer to the cost of a normal box/brick of .22LRs, and some retailers are already taking advanced orders at these lower prices.
Eley, Hornady and CCI will be the first to the market the ammo, and you can expect to see the mach 2’s hitting the dealer shelves around the end of this summer.
There was originally one big hurdle.
The only gun manufacturer that would commit at the Shot Show to a mach 2 firearm capable delivery date was Taurus with the high capacity manufacturer promising a small revolver available by late summer.
But now Ruger and several other manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, and its starting to look like a mach2 feeding frenzy will be hitting by this Christmas shopping season. So hang on to your wallet and watch for our soon to be released reviews!
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. The nation’s largest firearms manufacturer, has announced it will introduce there new design of the Ruger Mark III™ pistol later this year. The good news for us in the announcement, is the Mark III™ WILL be chambered for the new .17 caliber Hornady 17Mach 2 (HM2) rimfire cartridge (Under the Ruger model Number KMKIII817).
The new Ruger KMKIII817 pistol will features a stainless steel frame, 8-inch stainless steel fluted heavy barrel, and checkered Cocobolo thumb-rest grips. It has a micro-adjustable rear sight and a new Weaver-style scope base adapter for precise target acquisition. This new pistol will be chambered for the .17 caliber HM2 rimfire round, which propels a 17 grain bullet at an average velocity of 1,800 fps – over 800 fps faster than the typical .22 LR cartridge fired from a pistol.
The Ruger KMKIII817 is one of the new Ruger Mark III pistols, which feature a newly designed convenient-to-use magazine release button located on the left side of the frame, behind the trigger guard. It also features re-contoured sights and ejection port, an unobtrusive internal lock, magazine disconnect, and an innovative loaded chamber indicator.
“This exciting new Ruger pistol, with its fluted barrel and Cocobolo target grips, is the perfect compliment to the new .17 caliber Mach 2 cartridge,” said Sturm, Ruger & Company President, Stephen L. Sanetti. “It represents a new level of performance in rimfire pistols and will appeal to small bore enthusiasts of all interests.”
Pretty cool huh?

17Caliber.Com would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to the hard workers at Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. who received several awards presented by Shooting Industry magazine’s Academy of Excellence at the 2004 National Rifle Association annual meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
On April 16th. Sturm, Ruger picked up two top awards from the Academy of Excellence and was a top-three finalist in two other categories.
Amoung the awards, the Academy’s prestigious “Shooting Industry Award” was presented to Sturm, Ruger President, Stephen L. Sanetti.
This award is given to “individuals who have made valuable contributions to the shooting industry through product design, industry representation, or marketing expertise.”
The plaque presented to Sanetti includes the following inscription:
"For his work in effectively defending against countless ill-conceived lawsuits by individuals, municipalities, and anti-gun organizations.
Also for his efforts to support legislation protecting the rights of companies and individuals within the firearms industry for future generations."
In his acceptance of the “Shooting Industry Award,” Sanetti noted,
"My contribution was very small compared to the efforts of hundreds in the industry and many thousands of concerned shooters, who recognize important principles when they see them – that in America, the law abiding majority are not supposed to be punished for the criminal actions of a lawless few; and that elected legislators, not judges, are supposed to make our laws."
He also said, "This award really goes to all of you, and I humbly accept it on behalf of the law-abiding, responsible citizens who make up our industry and our customer base. I am truly honored. Good luck to all of us, and keep up the good fight."
Also at the awards, the Ruger New Model Single Six Hunter single action revolver, chambered in .17 HMR, was a top-three finalist for the “Handgun of the Year” award.
Sturm, Ruger was also a top-three finalist for the “Manufacturer of the Year” award. Thats it for now, check back soon for more 17 Caliber Updates!
